Bakkt Announces Plans for Digital Asset Consumer Payment App

Digital asset futures trading platform Bakkt has plans to release a new consumer app in the near future, according to a blog post published on October 28.  In the post, Chief Product Officer Mike Blandina suggested that the app is part of the company’s effort to deliver digital asset payment opportunities for both consumers and merchants:

“We’ll be launching a consumer app to make it easy for consumers to discover and unlock the value of digital assets, as well as ways in which they can transact or track them. Merchants gain access to a broader set of customers with expanded spending power.”

Blandina provided few details about the app but did describe Bakkt’s broader mission beyond its futures trading platform. According to him, the company’s other core mission tenet is “unlocking the value of digital assets” via consumer payments. To accomplish that goal, Bakkt intends to focus on delivering opportunities for consumers and merchants in “four key areas” of concern: digital asset infrastructure, marketplace access through the new app, maximizing control for both consumers and merchants, and establishing trust.
