Winklevoss Twins: Other Tech Firms Likely to Launch Their Own Cryptocurrencies

In a Tuesday interview with CNBC, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss predicted that Facebook won’t be the only technology giant to launch a cryptocurrency project. In fact, they believe that a number of major tech firms will be involved with their own cryptocurrencies soon. According to Tyler:

“Our prediction is every FANG company will have some sort of crypto currency project within the next two years.”

The Gemini founders also suggested that Facebook’s new Libra project is likely to help bring cryptocurrency into the mainstream, since the company has the type of stature that can help demystify the concept and help people become more comfortable with the technology.

At the same time, however, they did offer some advice for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, ahead of the company’s appearance before Senate and House committees next week:

“Work with regulators. Talk with them. You know, we definitely went through the front door, and we tried to educate the regulators and shape the regulation in a thoughtful manner because if you get the regulation wrong it can stifle innovation, but the right regulation allows for innovation to flourish, and we think we have achieved that right balance with New York.”
