Bitfury to Host Third Annual Blockchain Summit on Branson’s Necker Island

The annual Blockchain Summit is scheduled to begin on July 25, and this year’s event will see attendees gathering in one of the most exclusive locations on Earth. The Bitfury-hosted conference is being held on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island – a 74-acre Caribbean paradise located in the British Virgin Islands. Fifty of the world’s most influential thought leaders will assemble there for a three-day getaway to discuss a host of issues related to blockchain technology.

As the summit website notes,

“This unique Summit will welcome key global influencers in technology, civil society, democracy promotion and innovation to a riveting discussion about the world-changing potential applications of the Blockchain to include but not limited to democracy promotion, cyber security, the sharing economy, voting and land titling.”

The itinerary will include discussions about using the new technology for economic empowerment, identity security, content rights, and even conservation. According to reports, this third consecutive summit on Necker will focus on the same lofty themes advanced during the 2015 and 2016 gatherings: how to use blockchain technology to improve people’s lives.

Participants will include notables like EU Parliament member Eva Kaili, economist Hernando de Soto, and Toomas Ilves, the former President of Estonia. A diverse lineup of speakers will also be on hand, with MIT’s Brian Forde, Samsung Electronics’ Young Sohn, Bitpesa CEO Elizabeth Rossiello, and singer/blockchain advocate Imogen Heap.
